Ready to be pushed beyond what you think you’re capable of?
At Coinbase, our mission is to increase economic freedom in the world. It’s a massive, ambitious opportunity that demands the best of us, every day, as we build the emerging onchain platform — and with it, the future global financial system.
To achieve our mission, we’re seeking a very specific candidate. We want someone who is passionate about our mission and who believes in the power of crypto and blockchain technology to update the financial system. We want someone who is eager to leave their mark on the world, who relishes the pressure and privilege of working with high caliber colleagues, and who actively seeks feedback to keep leveling up. We want someone who will run towards, not away from, solving the company’s hardest problems.
Our work culture is intense and isn’t for everyone. But if you want to build the future alongside others who excel in their disciplines and expect the same from you, there’s no better place to be.
Business Development at Coinbase accelerates strategic company priorities and delivers impact via partnerships. You will serve in an exciting new role focused on driving growth of stablecoins for payments usage, and continuing our efforts to grow Coinbase internationally.
With increased regulatory clarity for digital assets, the timing is right to engage with a broad range of partners to accelerate growth and uptake of Coinbase services across our global footprint. You will be the tip of the spear for Coinbase in new markets, working closely with product, regulatory, policy, and legal teams to determine the best way for Coinbase to enter.
To be successful in this role, you will collaborate closely with product management to define the requirements for a successful product strategy and identify suitable partners based on those traits. We are seeking a dynamic, experienced, and highly ambitious individual capable of driving strategic initiatives across multiple regions, focusing on international market entry and payments. Ideal candidates will have had some international experience, with an understanding of the challenges posed by doing business in markets in which we’re starting from scratch and have relatively little brand awareness.
What you’ll be doing (ie. job duties):
- Serve as the Directly Responsible Individual (DRI) for strategic BD work streams supporting international expansion at Coinbase.
- Propose creative, first-of-kind commercial & product structures to drive value for Coinbase and strategic assets (including USDC, Base), drive utility for crypto in the payments industry, and land the Coinbase exchange in new markets
- Cover both the Retail & Institutional products
- Be the business go-to leading cross-functional partnership initiatives in new markets, working with Product, Engineering, Design, Comms, Legal, Policy, Compliance, and Marketing
- Educate the business about payment rails internationally, learning quickly to uncover blind spots for the product team, educating legal & policy teams that help support market entry efforts, and building close relationships with key stakeholders in new markets (e.g., banks, liquidity providers, fintechs, payments services providers, and other partners)
What we look for in you (ie. job requirements):
- 10+ years of experience across strategic deal-oriented roles with global exposure. Examples include: business development, corporate development, new market expansion, go-to-market strategy and partnerships
- Strong payments expertise, with an understanding of different parts of the web2 payments value chain and (at minimum) an appreciation for how stablecoin & low-cost L2s can update the financial system
- Experience in crypto (personal or professional)
- Exceptional interpersonal communication, relationship management, and organizational skills, including navigating complex organizational dynamics to deliver cross-team results. Nuanced and well-framed communications are key.
- Deep analytical, prioritization, and problem-solving skills and proven experience using data to identify actionable insights resulting in better product outcomes
- Entrepreneurial mindset and experience succeeding in fast-paced environments (at Coinbase, we call this a “run through brick walls” mentality)
- International experience
- Occasional travel required
Nice to haves:
- Portuguese, Spanish, or Hindi language skills
