About This Role:

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Director of Tax to take on a pivotal role in managing the Tax function of a busy Cryptocurrency exchange. The Director of Tax is a key member of the Finance Leadership team, directing all aspects of domestic and international tax, including reporting, compliance and strategic planning for multiple entities. Additionally, they will design and implement global tax strategies to meet business goals and optimize the overall company position.

In order to succeed, a candidate should feel comfortable in addressing tax issues with cross-functional teams and working autonomously with external advisors on a variety of tax matters. You need to bring a high level of technical expertise and ability to own the function from end to end. Excellent candidates will be able to demonstrate how they have implemented strategies to improve tax efficiency and drive innovation in tax reporting procedures.

Core Responsibilities:

Lead and oversee the completion of all federal, state and international income tax returns for multiple entities, working with outside consultants to enforce accuracy, timeliness and compliance with all relevant regulations
Responsibility for all day to day operations of the Tax department, including maintenance of the tax calendar to monitor filing deadlines, respond to tax notices and ensure compliance with all domestic and international tax laws and reporting requirements
Review all tax policies and positions and provide strategic guidance on a variety of corporate tax issues including payroll taxes, cross-border issues and transfer pricing studies
Direct the accounting for income taxes for all entities, including preparation of tax provisions in compliance with US GAAP, and partner with the Controllership to ensure accurate recording of liabilities
Own the customer tax reporting program, including collaboration with product teams to improve existing reporting and deliver an industry leading customer experience
Lead special tax projects such as R&D relief claims, and collaborate closely with business partners, including other finance functions, Product, Operations and Tech teams
Develop best in class tax processes to enable efficiencies and establish effective internal controls over tax reporting
Serve as primary liaison with external audit for all tax related matters
Assist with other ad hoc projects as necessary

Preferred Skills/Experience:

First class tax reporting and compliance skills gained from 10+ years of relevant work experience in industry and/or public accounting is required
A bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent, with CPA designation preferred
Startup experience in the Fintech or Financial Services industry preferred
Experience in overseeing external consultants and reviewing external work products
Ability to prioritize and handle multiple responsibilities, with attention to detail and accuracy
Self-motivated with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Experience developing and working with cross-functional teams
Strong written and verbal communication skills

Salary:

The starting pay range for this role is between $200,000 - $230,000 USD per year for all U.S. remote locations. The actual base pay will vary, and is dependent upon many factors, such as transferable skill sets, work experience, business needs, and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change.
