Who are we?
We believe Ethereum has the potential to solve some of humanity’s most crucial coordination issues. Since our initial inception as a research group, we have sought to scale both its technology and values.
At present, the most pressing bottleneck to the growth of Ethereum is its performance and scalability. We are building the most elegant solution to this problem. We do this in the open (under an MIT open source license) because we believe in open source innovation and its ability to accelerate growth.
OP Labs contributes to the Optimism protocol, an extension to Ethereum that scales both its technology and values. Optimism enables orders of magnitude of improved performance and scalability to Ethereum while doubling down on its commitment to public goods.
The Optimism Collective leads the blockchain protocol landscape, dedicated to fostering a scalable and sustainable ecosystem. Optimism’s ethos, in sync with Ethereum's vision, tackles pivotal coordination challenges of the digital age. Optimism’s goal is to harmonize private incentives with public good, shaping a resilient future for the Internet. Optimism’s scope spans diverse areas like Gaming, DeFi, NFTs, and Enterprise.
Position Overview:
We're looking for an engineering manager with experience building out a detection and response (D&R) team to play a crucial role in developing and securing the Optimism Collective's blockchain infrastructure. As the D&R manager at OP Labs, you'll lead the design, implementation, and execution of monitoring, alerting, and incident response processes that form a critical part of the Superchain’s security posture.
What are the role responsibilities?
- Build out a dedicated D&R team responsible for monitoring Superchain smart contracts and infrastructure.
- Develop and maintain a robust monitoring and alerting framework for the Superchain, enabling developers to easily stand up monitoring and ensuring coverage of critical contracts.
- Establish a clear incident response program (including runbooks, escalation paths, and SLAs) that both OP Labs and other core developers can follow.
- Coordinate cross-functional security drills (e.g., tabletop exercises) on a quarterly basis to validate and improve the organization’s readiness and response posture.
What skills do you bring?
- A track record of building and managing high-performing teams.
- Expertise in D&R tooling, both building in-house tooling and integrating with tools like Grafana and Opsgenie.
- Strong communication skills, to enable other teams and coordinate drills.
- Understanding of threat modeling, to identify the highest leverage monitors.
- Ability to plan projects, and set OKRs and measurable outcomes for the team.
