The Team
The Earn Pod owns the frontend surface for all of Kraken’s Earn-related features — across Krak, Consumer Web/Mobile, and Pro Web/Mobile. This includes staking, yield, fixed/flexible earnings, and upcoming DeFi-powered products. The Pod coordinates closely with the backend/deFi services, Wallet, Design, Product, and other platform teams to deliver a seamless, consistent, and high-quality user experience across consumer segments.
As the scope and scale of Earn grow rapidly, we’re seeking a Staff Frontend Engineer to shape the technical foundation, lead large-scale initiatives, and ensure long-term frontend excellence.
How We Work
- We give engineers ownership and trust them to ship high-impact work with craftsmanship and accountability
- We move quickly, experiment often, and learn fast from data and feedback.
- We work asynchronously across time zones, supporting each other with open communication and shared goals
Why This Role Matters
Every decision you make will shape how people discover, trust, and engage with our Earn products globally. As a Staff Engineer on the Earn Pod, you’ll set technical direction through context and clarity empowering others to execute with confidence. You’ll mentor through example and collaboration, raising the technical bar across teams and ensuring our systems scale with performance, reliability, and purpose.
This role sits at the intersection of product, marketing, and infrastructure turning ideas into measurable results. You’ll lead with accountability and empathy, aligning teams around shared goals and building sustainable systems that drive growth of Earn through engineering excellence.
What You’ll Own
- Set and evolve the frontend architecture and standards for Earn across all platforms (web + mobile)
- Lead high-impact, cross-app initiatives: major refactors, performance & reliability improvements, shared UI/component libraries or SDKs, and codebase modernization
- Define and enforce frontend best practices, testing strategy, performance budgets, and accessibility standards
- Collaborate deeply with backend, DeFi, and product/service teams to ensure coherent API contracts, state management, and data flow across surfaces
- Work closely with Product & Design to translate complex Earn/crypto concepts into intuitive, user-friendly, and performant UI/UX across user types (krak, consumer & pro)
- Mentorship and technical leadership: guide and review frontend engineers, influence roadmap choices, and act as a cross-pod technical leader
The Opportunity
- Architect, build, and maintain scalable, maintainable, high-performance frontend applications across React / Next.js / React Native (or similar) stacks
- Build reusable UI components, shared libraries/styles, and abstractions to support multiple apps and platforms
- Optimize web/mobile performance, reliability, load-times — especially critical for financial and crypto features involving real-time data
- Ensure UX consistency and quality (design system adherence, responsive/mobile-first, accessibility, edge-case handling)
- Define and enforce frontend testing, monitoring, and quality standards
- Collaborate across teams — backend, devops, services, design, product — to shape APIs, data flows, error-handling, and user flows, particularly for Earn features and DeFi integrations
- Serve as a senior technical voice in architecture, tech-strategy, and long-term frontend planning
Skills you should HODL
- 6+ years (or equivalent) professional experience delivering complex web and/or mobile applications
- Deep expertise with JavaScript/TypeScript, React (or equivalent component-based framework), and modern frontend ecosystems (e.g. Next.js, React Native, consistent build pipelines)
- Strong foundation in HTML5, CSS3 (or CSS-in-JS / styling solutions), responsive layout, cross-browser/device compatibility, accessibility, UI/UX best practices
- Experience architecting large-scale, maintainable frontend systems — component libraries, shared modules, code reuse, scalable state management, performance tuning
- Proven ability to lead technical direction, influence design and architecture decisions, and deliver across multiple applications or codebases
- Excellent collaboration skills — able to work closely with backend/service teams, design, product, and other stakeholders to deliver cross-functional features
- Strong problem-solving, analytical thinking, and ability to trade off short-term needs with long-term architecture/maintainability
- Experience building or maintaining shared UI component libraries or SDKs across multiple platforms (web & mobile)
- Background with backend-integration patterns, API-driven frontend design, state management for real-time data, and cross-platform consistency
- Demonstrated track record of mentoring, code reviews, engineering culture influence, and driving engineering excellence across teams
Nice to Haves
- Previous experience working in fintech, crypto, trading, or yield/interest-bearing products — familiarity with financial flows, security implications, real-time data
- Familiarity with crypto-specific UX challenges (e.g. wallet flows, permission/consent flows, error-handling for financial/deFi services)
Why This Role Matters
- You’ll own the core frontend foundation for one of Kraken’s most strategic offerings — Earn, used by millions, across Krak, consumer & pro platforms
- Your work shapes how users interact with high-impact financial and DeFi products — from usability and performance to security and reliability
- As a Staff-level engineer, you’ll influence not just code, but architecture, cross-team standards, and long-term platform scalability
- The role sits at the intersection of product ambition, frontend excellence, and crypto innovation — a rare opportunity to build at scale in a mission-driven domain
