About the Opportunity
We are seeking a hands-on Benefits Manager with strong experience managing benefits programs as they directly intersect with payroll execution, leave scenarios, and compliance risk. This role requires deep operational ownership, attention to detail, and the ability to independently reason through complex benefits–payroll scenarios in a fast-paced environment.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Own day-to-day benefits administration with a strong focus on payroll-impacting events, including new hires, terminations, leaves of absence, and benefit election changes.
- Partner closely with Payroll to ensure accurate deductions, proration, arrears handling, retroactive adjustments, and final paycheck compliance.
- Manage benefit programs including medical, FSA, 401(k), and other offerings, ensuring proper effective dating, tax treatment, and payroll alignment.
- Support complex leave scenarios (paid, unpaid, partial schedules) and understand how leave status affects earnings, deductions, and final pay.
- Review and reconcile payroll and benefits data each pay cycle; identify discrepancies and resolve issues proactively.
- Manage Open Enrollment end to end, including system configuration, payroll feeds, employee communication, and post-enrollment reconciliation.
- Support audits and compliance activities, including 401(k) audits, vendor reconciliations, and documentation readiness.
- Partner with HRIS, Payroll, and external vendors while retaining internal ownership of process accuracy and risk management.
- Respond to employee inquiries related to benefits, deductions, leave impacts, and final pay with clarity and confidence.
- Identify process gaps and drive improvements to controls, documentation, and workflows to reduce operational risk.
What We Look For In You
- 5+ years of experience in Benefits, Payroll, or HR Operations, with clear ownership of benefits processes that directly impact payroll.
- Strong understanding of how benefits elections flow into payroll deductions, including effective dating, pre-tax vs. post-tax handling, arrears, and retroactivity.
- Experience supporting leave of absence scenarios and understanding their payroll implications.
- Comfortable operating in an execution-heavy environment with frequent changes and ambiguity.
- Highly detail-oriented with strong judgment around compliance, accuracy, and risk mitigation.
- Confident, employee-facing communicator able to explain complex pay and benefits issues clearly.
- Experience with HRIS and payroll systems (e.g., ADP, bswift, Workday, BambooHR, or similar).
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.

The salary range for this position is $133,000 - $158,000
The salary offered depends on a variety of factors, including job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and market location. In addition to the salary, a performance bonus and long-term incentives may be provided as part of the compensation package, as well as a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
