Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated and technically proficient Director, Revenue to lead our comprehensive revenue accounting function. Reporting directly to the Chief Accounting Officer, this role is crucial for ensuring the accurate recognition, reporting, and control of all revenue streams related to our complex digital payments platform and cryptocurrency products. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in ASC 606 and a practical understanding of how these standards apply to digital assets and high-volume transactional environments.
Technical Accounting & Compliance:
- Own and optimize the end-to-end revenue recognition process in strict compliance with U.S. GAAP (specifically ASC 606) and company policies.
- Analyze and interpret complex customer and partner contracts, including non-standard crypto terms (e.g., token economics, staking agreements, payment fee structures), to identify impacts to revenue recognition.
- Draft, maintain, and enforce technical accounting policies for revenue recognition and receivables, ensuring accuracy in the context of both fiat and digital asset transactions.
- Review revenue and receivable-related disclosures for external financial reporting, ensuring compliance with US GAAP.
Operations & Systems:
- Manage the operational accounting processes for revenues and receivables, including the efficient execution of client billing and collections (Order-to-Cash cycle).
- Manage the accurate and timely monthly revenues and receivables close process, including journal entry preparation, reconciliation, and detailed variance analysis.
- Understand the system architecture and transactional flows, including blockchain data sources and payment rails, related to revenues and receivables to ensure the integrity of financial results.
- Collaborate closely with Software Engineering and Product teams on new product development (e.g., wallet services, trading features) to proactively determine and implement the appropriate accounting treatment for new crypto offerings.
- Work with internal stakeholders to ensure systems provide the necessary information and reporting required to meet accounting and financial reporting needs.
Controls, Reporting & Leadership:
- Develop, implement, and maintain robust internal controls over revenue recognition and receivable processes to ensure Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance.
- Develop and maintain management reporting for revenues and receivables; lead the analysis and presentation of revenue performance to senior leadership.
- Manage cross-functional relationships with Operations, Client Success, Legal, Software Engineering, Financial Planning & Analysis, and External Reporting.
- Support all internal and external audits and reviews, providing the necessary information, documentation, and analysis.
- Draft and maintain standard operating procedures for key accounting processes.
- Note: This is currently an individual contributor role; the scope and responsibilities may expand as company revenues and team needs grow.
Required Experience & Skills:
- Education & Certification: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is required.
- Experience: Eight+ years of progressive experience in public accounting and/or industry, including proven leadership roles.
- Technical Accounting Mastery: Deep, hands-on expertise in revenue recognition under ASC 606 is mandatory.
- Industry Expertise: Required experience working in the cryptocurrency, FinTech, or high-volume digital payments industry.
- Digital Asset Knowledge: Familiarity with the application of GAAP to crypto-specific business models (e.g., staking, platform/transaction fees, custody services, token accounting).
- Experience working for a U.S. publicly traded company and direct experience with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements.
- Systems Proficiency: Experience with enterprise-level ERP systems (NetSuite preferred) and proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Soft Skills: Strong analytical skills and proven ability to communicate complex accounting and technical concepts effectively across functional teams and at all levels of the Company.
- Experience identifying, recommending, and implementing process improvements.
