If you apply, we'd love you to tell us about the most impressive thing you've ever built.
Openfort is a wallet and payments infrastructure platform for verticalized fintech products built on stablecoin rails. We work together in person from Barcelona.
The Role
We’re hiring a Software Engineer to help make Openfort an agentic-first company: one where software agents handle an increasing share of operational work, while people set direction, exercise judgment, and maintain the underlying systems.
Your first challenge will be to build internal agentic tooling that makes our team dramatically more effective. You’ll identify repetitive or coordination-heavy workflows across engineering, product, support, and operations, then design systems that can execute them reliably.
This isn’t about adding a chatbot to existing software. It’s about rethinking how work gets done when agents can use tools, understand context, take actions, and collaborate with people. The best systems we build internally may later become products we share with our customers and other projects.
You’ll work closely with the founders and the rest of the engineering team. The role is deliberately open-ended: you’ll need to find valuable problems, prototype quickly, ship production-quality solutions, and learn from how people actually use them.
Some things we’re working on
- Build agents that can safely use our internal tools, APIs, documentation, and operational systems
- Automate repetitive workflows across engineering, product, customer support, and company operations
- Design the infrastructure agents need to operate reliably: context, memory, permissions, evaluation, observability, and human oversight
- Create interfaces that make it easy for people to delegate work, review decisions, and intervene when necessary
- Develop evaluations and feedback loops that measure whether agents are correct, useful, and improving over time
- Work with the team to identify high-leverage workflows instead of automating tasks simply because we can
- Turn successful internal systems into reusable primitives—and potentially products—for Openfort customers and other teams
- Help define the engineering principles and architecture of an agentic-first organization
What you should have
- Strong software engineering fundamentals and experience shipping production systems
- The ability to work across the stack and choose tools based on the problem rather than personal preference
- Experience integrating APIs, working with structured and unstructured data, and building reliable backend services
- Product judgment: you can distinguish an impressive prototype from a system that creates durable value
- A practical understanding of modern AI models, including their capabilities, limitations, and failure modes
- High agency and comfort working from an ambiguous problem rather than a detailed specification
- A bias toward shipping, observing real usage, and iterating
- Clear written and verbal communication
- Scrappy and entrepreneurial: you enjoy building from zero, questioning existing workflows, and taking ownership beyond the boundaries of a conventional engineering role
Nice to haves
- You’ve built agents, AI-powered developer tools, or workflow-automation systems
- Experience with LLM tool use, retrieval, context management, evaluations, or agent orchestration
- Experience designing secure permission systems, sandboxed execution, or human-in-the-loop workflows
- You’ve automated a meaningful part of your own work or built tools adopted by other people
- Familiarity with developer infrastructure, wallets, payments, stablecoins, or crypto
- Contributions to open source or side projects that demonstrate initiative and technical taste
- You’ve taken an experimental AI prototype all the way to a reliable production system
Why you should be excited
- Help define what an agentic-first company looks like in practice—not as a demo, but as a real operating model
- Build tools that will be used immediately by a highly technical team
- Work on difficult, unsolved problems around agent reliability, autonomy, permissions, and human oversight
- Turn internal breakthroughs into products that other companies and projects can use
- Build infrastructure powering the future of fintech and self-custody wallets
- Work alongside a passionate team in Barcelona with substantial ownership over what and how you build
- Join early enough to shape both the technical architecture and the company’s way of working
What we offer
- Interesting and technically challenging work
- Significant ownership and autonomy
- Competitive salary and equity
- An in-person working environment in Barcelona
- The opportunity to build foundational systems rather than incremental features
