The opportunity
This role leads Uphold’s credit risk review process for counterparties such as funds, fintechs, and digital asset firms. You’ll analyze financials, assess creditworthiness, and conduct due diligence on regulatory and operational risks. Partnering with compliance, legal, and business teams, you’ll deliver clear recommendations to senior leadership and risk committees that directly shape counterparty decisions in a fast-evolving financial landscape.
What you’ll be doing primarily:
Credit & Financial Risk Analysis
- Lead the end-to-end credit risk review process for counterparties and clients, including investment funds, digital asset firms, fintechs, and startups.
- Analyze financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flows), funding history, capital structure, burn rates, and liquidity profiles.
- Assess creditworthiness using qualitative and quantitative methods, including ratio analysis, stress testing, and scenario modeling.
- Prepare detailed risk memoranda and recommendations for internal stakeholders and risk committees.
Due Diligence & Compliance Analysis
- Support and enhance counterparty due diligence workflows — including review of business models, operational structures, licensing status, and regulatory exposure.
- Collaborate with compliance teams on KYC, AML, and regulatory checks as part of onboarding and ongoing monitoring.
- Review global licensing and registration documents (e.g., SEC, FCA, FINRA, MAS) and map regulatory risks relevant to the company’s operations.
- Track and escalate red flags related to legal, regulatory, or reputational risks.
Cross-Team Coordination & Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as a bridge between the credit, compliance, legal, and business development teams to ensure holistic onboarding and monitoring of counterparties.
- Present findings and recommendations to senior leadership and risk committees.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in credit risk, financial analysis, or due diligence, with a focus on analyzing counterparties such as investment funds, fintech companies, startups, or other non-traditional financial institutions — whether from within a financial institution (e.g., a bank) or in a consulting/advisory capacity.
- Strong command of financial statement analysis and credit risk assessment frameworks.
- Familiarity with regulatory and licensing environments (e.g., SEC, FINRA, FCA, MiFID, VASP regulations).
- Demonstrated experience in due diligence processes, either from a risk, compliance, or deal-support perspective.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to distill complex risks into clear business decisions.
- Strong organizational and project management skills; able to handle multiple concurrent assessments and stakeholders.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field. CFA, CPA, CAMS or similar certifications are a plus.
Bonus if you have
- Experience working in fintech or finance-related industries.
- Personal and professional experience in blockchain and crypto is a plus.
- Experience working in a fast paced environment
