About Nethermind
Nethermind is a blockchain research and software engineering company building high-performance infrastructure, security tooling, and cryptographic systems across the Ethereum ecosystem and beyond. We work closely with protocol teams, L2s, and ZK projects to help design, review, and secure cutting-edge decentralized systems.
We are expanding our Team and are looking for an Embedded / Edge Engineer to build the machine-side software layer for connected physical systems.
This role is for someone who enjoys working close to hardware, real devices, unreliable networks, logs, diagnostics, edge compute, and field conditions.
Responsibilities:
- Build edge software for connected machines and automated retail or industrial environments.
- Integrate edge devices with sensors, screens, peripherals, connectivity modules, and backend systems.
- Implement local state management, diagnostics, logging, and fallback behavior.
- Support reliable device-to-cloud communication.
- Work with backend, AI, product, and field teams to connect real machines to the platform.
- Help select edge hardware, operating systems, device-management patterns, and deployment tooling.
- Support prototypes, demos, and early field pilots.
Requirements:
- Experience with embedded, edge, industrial IoT, robotics, kiosk, POS, vending, or hardware-connected systems.
- Strong programming ability in C, C++, Rust, Go, Python, or similar.
- Experience with Linux-based edge devices.
- Experience with hardware interfaces, networking, sensors, USB, serial communication, GPIO, or related technologies.
- Ability to debug real-world device issues.
- Understanding of device identity, logging, updates, connectivity, and remote support.
Must Haves:
- Experience with payment terminals, kiosks, vending machines, industrial devices, retail automation, or connected hardware fleets.
- Experience with OTA updates, secure provisioning, device management, or fleet monitoring.
- Experience with embedded Linux, industrial PCs, Raspberry Pi, NVIDIA Jetson, microcontrollers, or similar platforms.
- Experience with local AI inference, cameras, audio, or sensor processing.
Success in the first 90 days:
- You help bring the first edge prototype to a stable working state.
- You connect real devices to the backend.
- You implement basic telemetry, diagnostics, and local fallback behavior.
- You help define the device-side engineering playbook.
Success in the first 6-12 months:
- The company has a reliable edge software layer running in pilot environments.
- Devices can report status, receive updates, expose data, and fail safely.
- You become a key technical owner of the edge platform.
Our Commitment to Diversity
