Genies is an AI avatar technology company powering the visual and embodiment layer for AI. Through the Genies SDK, their proprietary avatar framework brings AI to life as fully realized AI personas that look, think, behave, and play like living identities. Genies powers AI companion, NPC, and agent use cases across enterprise, consumer, creator, entertainment, and gaming. Genies has raised $200M from Silver Lake, BOND, and Bob Iger. Genies is built on the belief that every website, app, game, brand, and human will have an AI persona.
We're looking for a creative, detail-obsessed person with deep knowledge of the entertainment landscape to join our Partnerships team and shape how interactive avatars come to life for sports and music talent. You'll be a key decision-maker in the end-to-end character development process—defining the research frameworks, personality standards, and production approaches that determine what makes an AI-powered avatar feel authentic to fans. Beyond character work, you'll contribute to broader partnership strategy, influencing how we engage external stakeholders and align internal teams around shared goals.
This role works closely with our Partnerships team, which focuses on bringing digital identities and tools to IP and talent partners (Sanrio, MLB Players Inc., NBA Players Association, and others). You'll have real input into how we scale that work and what we prioritize.
This is a 3-month contract based in Los Angeles, with potential to extend or convert to a full-time role.
What You'll Be Doing
- Lead deep research on sports and music talent—interviews, social media presence, fan culture, speech patterns, and public persona—and make key calls on how that translates into avatar personality and voice
- Own decisions around AI tool usage and model training, determining how researched data shapes personality, tone, and conversational behavior
- Partner with technical teams on animation systems, RAG pipelines, proprietary behavior technologies, and model tuning
- Define quality standards for avatar conversations, evaluating personality alignment and fan engagement and driving improvements based on your findings
- Collaborate with the Product team on production schedules and workflows, with input into how we structure and prioritize character development
- Manage multiple character builds simultaneously, making judgment calls on tradeoffs when deadlines compete
- Identify technical and creative gaps and advocate for enhancements
- Establish documentation standards for character guidelines, prompt strategies, and production notes that scale across the team
- Help shape our approach to AI tooling and development workflows as the space evolves
What You Should Have
- Strong research instincts and the ability to synthesize information into clear, opinionated personality frameworks—not just profiles
- A high bar for quality and the conviction to push back when something isn't right
- Deep familiarity with sports and/or music culture, fan communities, and digital engagement
- Excellent written communication skills; able to articulate nuanced feedback and build alignment across teams
- Comfortable making decisions in a fast-moving environment where context shifts quickly and not everything is defined
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities and own outcomes across multiple projects
- A bias toward action and ownership—you don't wait to be told what the next step is
- Genuine interest in AI, entertainment, and the future of fan interaction
- Bonus: experience with prompt engineering, conversational AI, or character writing
How Genies will support you
- Competitive salary and equity packages
- Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance
- Unlimited PTO
- Parental leave
- Hybrid work structure (minimum 4 days in office weekly)
- Monthly wellness reimbursement
