Abacus Works is seeking a Senior Protocol Engineer to work on Hyperlane, the first permissionless interoperability layer!
The Hyperlane protocol is pioneering permissionless and modular interoperability. Providing developers with an API to connect between blockchains, Hyperlane is the first tool that allows anyone to add interoperability capabilities to any chain, without having to deal with gatekeeping! Hyperlane's modular security stack means developers can configure and customize their security to their needs, always remaining in control.

Key Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and optimize the smart contracts that underpin the Hyperlane interchain messaging API.
- Contribute to Hyperlane protocol development and manage the on-chain state of various Hyperlane deployments.
- Work on integrations of Hyperlane with other protocols to expand our interoperability.
- Design and implement novel economic primitives that secure the Hyperlane interchain messaging API.
- Set and maintain smart contract security best practices.
Qualifications:
- 2+ years designing, building, and maintaining smart contract protocols in production.
- Expert level knowledge of the EVM or other smart contract execution environments.
- A crypto-native with a strong understanding of cryptoeconomic systems.
- 4+ years of software engineering experience with a proven track record.
- Experience with code audits and maintaining high security standards.
- The drive, intensity, and motivation to perform at a world-class level.
- BONUS: Self-describe as a "gas golfer".
- BONUS: Experience building in Solana, Cosmwasm, or Move-based execution environments.
- BONUS: Familiarity with other areas in our tech stack (TypeScript, Rust agents, etc).
Base salary range for this role is 175k to 250k (NY). Compensation subject to experience and location. Published salary bands pursuant to transparency laws, and do not include possible variable compensation such as annual merit increases, bonus eligibility, commission, or equity incentive.
